Meet Atelopus varius... or the "Costa Rican Clown Frog." These little guys are critically endangered, but so amazingly designed they look like they've had a splash of paint added to the skin. They haven't though- they evolved that colorful splash to indicate toxicity to predators. It's the frog's way of saying, "Hey, don't eat me! I'm poisonous." Indeed, A. varius contains tetrodotoxin, a very potent neurotoxin. This is one frog a predator would not get away with digesting.
They are diurnal frogs (active during the day, sleeping at night). Less than 100 of these frogs remain in the wild in Costa Rica; amphibians in general in the wild (and in the tropics) remain under threat and decline. This may be due to many causes, including pollution, disease, habitat destruction, and anthropogenic climate change. It was as if someone had poured tons of coffee and milk into the ocean, then switched on a giant blender. Suddenly the shoreline north of Sydney were transformed into the Cappuccino Coast. Foam swallowed an entire beach and half the nearby buildings, including the local lifeguards centre, in a freak display of nature at Yamba in New South Wales.

موتالا
این فیل 50 ساله یکی از پاهای خود را به واسطه انفجار مین زمینی از دست داده است. خوشبختانه تایلند یکی از کشورهای جهان بوده که دارای بیمارستان تخصصی فیل‌ها است. موتالا با پای مصنوعی و مراقبت افرادی آموزش دیده به زندگی خود ادامه می دهد.
فوجی
به واسطه یک بیماری نکروتیک، 75 درصد از باله دمی این دلفین باید قطع می شد. اما شرکت بریجستون، یکی از تولیدکنندگان مطرح تایر در جهان، یک باله سیلیکونی ویژه را برای فوجی طراحی کرده و عنوان نخستین دلفین جهان با باله مصنوعی به وی تعلق گرفت.
ریلی
یکی از پاهای این ماده اسب دچار عفونت شده بود، اما کارکنان محل نگهداری وی تصمیم به انجام یک عمل جراحی بی نظیر گرفته و با استفاده از یک پای مصنوعی ادامه زندگی ریلی را ممکن ساختند.
تولی
پای این لاک پشت توسط یک موش جویده شده بود، اما به واسطه استفاده از چرخ یک تراکتور اسباب بازی همچنان می تواند به زندگی خود ادامه دهد.
«یو» (Yu) نام لاک‌پشت دریایی 25 ساله‌ای است که در پارک آبی سوما در بندر کوبه در ژاپن زندگی می‌کند؛ این هفته این جاندار دریایی بیست و هفتمین جفت از پاهای مصنوعی خود را آزمود.
اُسکار
این گربه بوسیله یک کمباین مجروح شده و بنا به توصیه دامپزشک محلی در نیوجرسی، صاحب اسکار برای معالجه وی با پزشکی در لندن تماس گرفت. پس از انجام آزمایش‌ها و عکسبرداری‌های مختلف، اسکار صاحب دو پای مصنوعی شد.
کسیدی
این سگ که به شدت از سوء تغذیه و قطع شدن یکی از پاهایش رنج می برد، در خیابان یافت شد. پس از آن، یک خانواده سرپرستی وی را قبول کرده و کسیدی را به نخستین سگی مبدل کردند که از یک پای مصنوعی پیشرفته بهره می برد.
اوزونکا
این لک لک توسط فردی ناشناس مجروح شده و تا پیش از بهره مندی از این منقار مصنوعی، پنج عمل جراحی را پشت سر گذاشته بود.
